Herbaceous, smoky, animalic

Black and red musk, a smoldering cauldron, cracked bone, cardamom, warm wood, hanging animal skins, burning mugwort.

Mugwort, dried and ground in a mortar and pestle, burns over coals in a small hut on chicken legs in the middle of the woods where a fearsome old witch dwells. In this hut, there are hanging animal skins, and littered across the floor are bones belonging to both beast and man. It is here in this peculiar hut with this strange old woman that the tales offer a glimmer of hopea last resort when society has shunned the hero or turned their backs on justice. Cardamom and the warm glow of an oven hint at the wisdom and help that can be found within, if you dare to look.

It is impossible to speak of Slavic folklore without it starting and ending with Baba Yaga, with her fabled iron teeth and penchant for eating those who wander into her woods. But there is something more nuanced about this ancient witch who lives on the fringes of society. She is the singular most powerful and magical figure in all the folktales, who bends nature and time to her own will.

The heroes in the talesVasilisa, Ivan, Masha of Finist the Falcon, and so many others enter her hut bedraggled, without hope, and facing certain death. Her help isn't kind and it isn't easy, but Baba Yaga is always the catalyst for powerful magic.

Baba Yaga, at her best and worse, exemplifies the raw, wild power and wisdom of women and nature itself.

Perfume oil. Ingredients: fractionated coconut oil, fragrance.
All sizes feature glass bottles. The 10 ml and 4 ml both have stainless steel rollerballs, the 1.5 ml has a screw top only.

Beautiful scent - amazing wear!

I received this scent as a sample with an order my partner got me for Christmas. I've tried several different Fantôme scents, and they are all incredible, but this one... WOW! I had been looking at this scent for a while and had hesitated to order it, but it's truly wonderful! The cardamom pulls to the top on my skin and creates a wonderful, rich scent that reminds me of a tea shop I used to visit. Smoky and spiced, you can't go wrong with this perfume!

My supreme favorite Fantome scent among many favorites — it smells wise and feral, just like Baba Yaga.

Amazing

Words cannot explain how absolutely stunning this scent it. This is a perfect year round perfume in my opinion and something I’d be happy to smell like 24/7. Sweet, earthy, powdery, musky perfection. I was hoping for it to be slightly more animalic but very happy with this scent overall!

My favorite scent

I got the Russian folklore sample collection specifically because I loved the sound of the Baba Yaga perfume but I wanted to try them all. People are talking about wearing this for the cooler seasons but I could honestly wear this all year long. I’m finding out that I’m more drawn to musky and earthy scents than clean or floral ones. This perfume is everything I want my skin to smell like. It’s very intensely like incense when it fresh on my skin, but as it settles in, I smell the musk and sweetness of the cardamom. I can smell the animalistic notes too, the description is perfect. I smell like a mysterious and powerful being and at least to me, this scent feels very primal and sexy. Gonna get the biggest bottle possible of this as soon as possible. I hope they never stop making it.

The Loveliest Let-down

I really really like it! I'm far from a perfume expert, so I don't know all right the language to use, but the incense, the smoke, and the cardamom notes definitely pop on my skin. I saw another reviewer say that they get a "massive jasmine note" and I can definitely see what they're coming from, but I read it more as something powdery and woody and I think that the cardamom might make those notes read floral on some. I'll wear it longer to see how it shifts on my skin, but I'm not getting much of the animalic note from the description. It's not quite what I was hoping for, but it's a lovely, alluring scent regardless. Maybe I'll try layering it with another fragrance?!
